Eva Tucker – Year of election 2010

Eva Tucker is the author of two novels set in the 1960s, Contact and Drowning, and more recently has written two well-received semi-autobiographical novellas.  Berlin Mosaic, the story of a Jewish family in the first half of the 20th century, is a moving evocation of pre-war and wartime Berlin; Becoming English vividly captures a refugee’s desperate longing to be assimilated. Both are beautifully distilled, exploring – particularly with regard to the Holocaust – the power of what is left unsaid. Her short stories have been broadcast by the BBC and published in various journals, and she has also translated Joseph Roth’s The Radetsky March.
