
Elaine Showalter is best known as a founder of feminist literary criticism in America. From 1984 to 2003 she taught at Princeton, specializing in Victorian literature. Her works include A Literature of Their Own (1977), Hystories: hysterical epidemics and modern media (1997) and Inventing Herself (2001). In 2007 she chaired the judges for the Man Booker International Prize. Her most recent book is A Jury of Her Peers: American women writers from Anne Bradstreet to Annie Proulx (2009).
