Lucy Hughes-Hallett is the author of two widely praised non-fiction books, one which uses the story of Cleopatra to explore two millennia of sexual fantasy and racial prejudice, the other on heroes, and the seduction of greatness. Her new book, out later this year, is on the Italian poet Gabriele d’Annunzio. She is also a regular reviewer and literary journalist. She describes herself as “always looking for new ways of containing reality in words”, and says that, “the non-fiction I most admire – and that I aspire to write - is as flexible and inventive as fiction.”
