Kate Atkinson – Year of election 2010
Kate Atkinson’s first novel, Behind the Scenes at the Museum, won the Whitbread Book of the Year Award in 1995. Case Histories (2004), the first book featuring her private investigator Jackson Brodie, won the Saltire Book of the Year Award and the Prix Westminster. Last month Case Histories, based on the Brodie books, was broadcast as a BBC One series, and their author was appointed MBE for services to literature.
