| The Royal Society
of Literature was founded by King George IV in 1820, to ‘reward
literary merit and excite literary talent’.
Today, our 450 Fellows
including eminent poets, playwrights,
novelists, biographers, historians and critics.
Our President is the biographer Sir Michael Holroyd,
and our Chair the biographer Anne Chisholm. A Council of Fellows
meets monthly to oversee the lecture programme and to campaign
